LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Dunmore Fabricating & Welding is a small fabrication and welding shop on the Sydney side of Albert Bridge, and we need someone to look after the building and yard the shop runs out of. The work is steady, hands-on upkeep: keeping the shop, offices, washrooms and storage areas clean, safe and in working order through the year.

The day starts with a walk-through of the building and a check of the furnace, lights and doors, then moves on to whatever needs doing — sweeping the shop floor, salting the step in winter, changing filters, sorting scrap, meeting a tradesperson for a repair, or flagging a problem to the owner before it gets big. You will work alongside the shop crew, not above them, and you will be the person everyone relies on to keep the place running.

What you'll be doing

  • Building upkeep. Sweep and wash floors, clean washrooms and offices, and keep the shop and yard tidy and safe.
  • Minor repairs. Replace bulbs, filters and worn hardware, and handle small fixes before they turn into bigger jobs.
  • Seasonal care. Shovel and salt walkways in winter, clear gutters in fall, and check the roof and exterior when the weather turns.
  • Contractor escort. Let tradespeople in, walk them through the work, and report what was done or what still needs attention.

What they're asking for

  • No experience needed. We will train the right person on the building, the equipment and the routine.
  • Reliability. You show up on time, every scheduled day, and let us know early if something changes.
  • Physical fitness. The job involves lifting, climbing ladders, and moving around the shop and yard all day.
  • WHMIS. We will provide the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System training if you do not have it.

What the employer offers

  • Gear provided. Work boots, gloves, safety glasses and any tools the job needs are supplied.
  • Paid overtime. Hours past forty in a week are paid at time and a half.
  • Paid sick leave. Paid sick days as set out under Nova Scotia labour standards.
