About this role

Charlottetown Painting & Finishing is a painting and finishing contractor working on residential and light commercial projects across the Halifax area, with a crew that grows through the spring and summer. We're adding a payroll clerk to our small office in Beaver Bank to keep the weekly pay run accurate and on time.

The day is spent in front of a computer with time sheets and payroll software. You'll key in hours from crew time sheets, check them against job records and answer questions from employees about their pay. It's a steady office role with a lot of detail work, and we'll train the right person on our system and routines.

What you'll be doing

  • Time entry. Enter crew hours, overtime and travel time into the payroll system from weekly time sheets.
  • Verification. Check time sheets against job records and flag missing or inconsistent entries before the pay run.
  • Pay processing. Help prepare the weekly payroll, pay statements and records of deductions.
  • Employee questions. Answer basic questions from crew about pay, deductions and pay dates, and pass the rest to the office manager.

What they're asking for

  • Education. High school diploma or equivalent; some bookkeeping or accounting coursework is an asset.
  • Experience. No payroll experience needed; we will train the right person on our system.
  • Attention to detail. Comfort working with numbers, spreadsheets and deadlines without letting errors slip through.
  • Eligibility. Legally entitled to work in Canada and able to work onsite at our Beaver Bank office.

What the employer offers

  • Training. Paid onboarding on our payroll software and weekly routines.
  • Health coverage. Group health and dental benefits after the probation period.
  • Leave. Two weeks of paid vacation to start, plus paid statutory holidays.
