LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Steinbach Roofing Ltd. runs a small deli counter in Barrington, NS, serving prepared meats, cheeses and sandwiches to walk-in customers. We are hiring a deli clerk to keep the counter stocked, clean and friendly, and we will train the right person from scratch.

The day runs behind the counter: slicing to order, wrapping and weighing product, restocking the case, and keeping the prep area to health-code standard. You will greet customers, take sandwich orders, ring through sales and help close the counter at the end of the shift.

What you'll be doing

  • Customer service. Greet walk-in customers, take sandwich and sliced-to-order requests, and answer questions about product.
  • Slicing and preparation. Operate the slicer to cut meats and cheeses to order, weigh and wrap portions, and assemble sandwiches.
  • Stock and rotation. Restock the display case, check dates, and rotate product so nothing old stays on the shelf.
  • Cleanliness. Sanitize the slicer, counter and prep surfaces throughout the shift and complete the closing clean-up.

What they're asking for

  • Food safety. Willingness to complete Food Handler certification; the employer covers the course and exam.
  • Experience. None required — training is provided on the slicer, wrapping and counter procedures.
  • Physical fitness. Able to stand for a full shift and lift up to 20 kg of product and supplies.
  • Availability. Able to work weekends and the occasional early start on delivery days.

What the employer offers

  • Food Handler training. Course and exam fees paid in full by the employer.
  • Staff discount. Discounted deli and sandwich purchases during shifts.
  • Uniform and gear. Aprons, gloves and safety gear supplied at no cost.
