About this role

Klondike Mechanical Services is a small animal practice in Baden, Ontario, providing routine care, surgery and diagnostics for dogs and cats in the surrounding township. We are hiring a veterinary assistant to support our veterinarians and technicians in the treatment room and at the front desk.

The day starts with morning rounds and kennel checks, then moves between patient restraint, instrument prep for surgeries, cleaning and restocking exam rooms, and greeting clients at reception. You will be on your feet and handling animals of all sizes, and you will be trained on our protocols as you go.

What you'll be doing

  • Animal handling. Restrain dogs and cats safely during exams, vaccinations and blood draws under veterinary supervision.
  • Treatment support. Prepare exam rooms and surgical packs, and keep instruments clean and sterilised between appointments.
  • Kennel care. Feed, walk and monitor boarded and recovering patients, and record observations in their files.
  • Client service. Greet owners at reception, book appointments and answer basic questions about visits and aftercare.

What they're asking for

  • No experience needed. We hire people who are calm with animals and willing to learn, and we train the rest on the job.
  • Education. Completion of secondary school, or an equivalent combination of experience and willingness to learn.
  • Physical fitness. Able to lift up to 20 kg and stand for most of a shift, including some bending and kneeling.
  • Availability. Able to work a weekend rotation and occasional evenings as scheduled.

What the employer offers

  • Health coverage. Group health and dental benefits after three months of employment.
  • Uniform allowance. Annual allowance for scrubs and safety footwear.
  • Learning support. Paid time for continuing education and lunch-and-learn sessions with our veterinarians.
