About this role

Assiniboine Drywall & Acoustics runs a small fleet of school buses serving Alliston and the surrounding townships, and we are adding a driver to cover a morning and afternoon route. We are a construction company that also operates school bus service for the local board, and we train new drivers from scratch — no prior bus experience needed.

Your day starts at the yard before the first bell, where you do a walk-around inspection and log any defects before pulling out. You run your route, get students to school on time, return to the yard, and come back for the afternoon dismissal. Between runs there is time for cleaning, paperwork and a break, and the schedule repeats the same way each school day.

What you'll be doing

  • Pre-trip inspection. Walk around the bus, check lights, brakes, tires and fluids, and record defects before leaving the yard.
  • Route driving. Pick up and drop off students along an assigned route, keeping to the timetable and stopping only at designated points.
  • Student safety. Make sure riders are seated and the bus is clear before moving, and follow the board's conduct rules on board.
  • Reporting. Complete daily logs, report incidents and mechanical issues to the dispatcher, and keep the bus clean inside.

What they're asking for

  • Licence. A valid Ontario Class B or E licence, or a Class G licence and willingness to complete our Class B training program.
  • Certification. Must obtain and maintain a valid Ontario School Bus Driver Improvement Course certificate, which we help arrange.
  • Record checks. A clean driver's abstract and a satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check before the first day.
  • Availability. Able to commit to both the morning and afternoon runs every school day, and to arrive at the yard on time in winter weather.

What the employer offers

  • Paid training. Class B licensing and the school bus improvement course are paid for and completed on the clock.
  • Split-shift pay. Weekly hours are guaranteed through the school year, with a minimum call-in of two hours.
  • Gear and cover. Uniform allowance, winter boots and a bus kept fuelled and maintained by the company.
