LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Atelier Mécanique Beauce is a machine shop and maintenance shop in Arborg, MB, serving farms, feed mills and small manufacturers across the Interlake. We take on a millwright to help install, service and repair the equipment our customers depend on, and we are opening this posting to people starting out in the trade.

The day starts in the shop with the crew lead going over the work orders. You will shadow a journeyperson on conveyor and gearbox jobs, take things apart, clean and inspect parts, and put them back together under supervision. Some days are in the shop, some are on the road to a customer site, and you will learn to read drawings and use measuring tools as you go.

What you'll be doing

  • Assembly and teardown. Take apart pumps, conveyors and gearboxes with a journeyperson and label parts for reassembly.
  • Shop support. Clean and inspect components, measure shafts and bearings, and stage parts for the next job.
  • Field work. Travel to farms and plants with the crew to help with alignments, belt changes and equipment checks.
  • Safety. Follow lockout procedures, keep tools and the work area tidy, and report hazards to the crew lead.

What they're asking for

  • Entry level. No trade experience needed; the shop will train the right person and support apprenticeship registration.
  • Education. Grade 12 or equivalent, with basic math and the ability to read a tape measure.
  • Tickets. Valid driver's licence required; a clean driver's abstract is needed to drive a company vehicle.
  • Conditions. Able to lift 50 lb repeatedly and work in cold and dusty plant conditions; steel-toed boots required.

What the employer offers

  • Apprenticeship support. Hours are logged toward the millwright apprenticeship and the shop covers part of tuition.
  • Tools and gear. Shop tools are provided and the employer supplies coveralls and safety glasses.
  • Overtime. Time and a half after 40 hours a week, plus a per-diem on out-of-town jobs.
