About this role

Bridgewater Cabinet Works is a custom cabinet and millwork shop in Beausejour, Manitoba, building kitchen and commercial casework for customers across the eastern Interlake. We are adding a bookkeeper to keep our books accurate as the shop grows, and this is an entry-level position for someone starting out in accounting and administration.

The day is spent in our office beside the shop floor. You will enter supplier invoices and customer payments, reconcile the bank and credit card accounts, prepare invoices for completed jobs, and keep the filing and payroll records in order. You will work closely with the shop owner, who reviews the monthly reports with you, and there is room to learn as the workload grows.

What you'll be doing

  • Data entry. Enter supplier invoices, customer payments and expense receipts into our accounting software and keep the records current.
  • Reconciliation. Match the bank and credit card statements against our records each month and flag anything that does not balance.
  • Invoicing. Prepare customer invoices from job sheets and follow up on accounts that fall past due.
  • Filing and payroll support. Keep paper and digital records organized and help assemble the biweekly payroll information for the owner's review.

What they're asking for

  • Education. A certificate or diploma in accounting or bookkeeping is an asset, though we will train a reliable candidate with strong numeracy.
  • Software. Comfort with spreadsheets and basic accounting software; familiarity with QuickBooks is helpful but not required.
  • Accuracy. Careful, consistent work with numbers and the patience to find and fix small errors.
  • Eligibility. You must be legally entitled to work in Canada and able to work on site in Beausejour.

What the employer offers

  • Benefits. Group health and dental coverage after three months of employment.
  • Gear. A workstation, computer and software licences are provided, along with a boot allowance for shop-floor visits.
  • Leave. Two weeks of paid vacation to start, plus statutory holidays and paid sick days.
