LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Cape Breton Home Renovations operates a small home care service out of Attawapiskat, supporting Elders and community members who need help with daily living so they can stay in their own homes. We are hiring Health Care Aides to join our team and will train the right person; no previous care experience is needed.

The day is spent in clients' homes in and around the community. You help with bathing, dressing and mobility, prepare simple meals, remind clients to take their medication, and keep notes on how each person is doing. You travel between homes, work alongside family members and our care coordinator, and report any changes you notice.

What you'll be doing

  • Personal care. Help clients with bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting while respecting their privacy and dignity.
  • Meal support. Prepare simple, nutritious meals and snacks and help clients eat when they need a hand.
  • Mobility. Assist clients to move safely around their homes, including transfers and walks, and use equipment properly.
  • Reporting. Keep clear daily notes and let the care coordinator know about changes in a client's health or home situation.

What they're asking for

  • Training provided. No prior care experience is required; we provide on-the-job training and orientation for new aides.
  • Certification. A valid First Aid and CPR certificate is required, or willingness to obtain one within the first month.
  • Vulnerable sector check. A satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening is required before starting.
  • Reliability. You must be dependable, patient and able to travel between clients' homes in the community.

What the employer offers

  • Paid training. Orientation and on-the-job training are paid at your regular hourly rate.
  • Travel allowance. Mileage is paid for travel between client homes during the work day.
  • Flexible scheduling. We work with you to build a schedule around family and community commitments.
