LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Georgian Bay Marine Repairs is a small boatyard on the Detroit River in Amherstburg, Ontario. We build and repair wooden and fibreglass boats, docks, and marine structures, and we are looking for an entry-level carpenter to join our team.

On a typical day you will work alongside experienced carpenters, measuring, cutting, and fastening lumber for boat cradles, dock sections, and shed frames. You will learn to use hand and power tools safely, keep the shop tidy, and help load and unload materials as they arrive.

What you'll be doing

  • Measuring and cutting. You will measure and cut lumber to size using hand saws and power saws under supervision.
  • Assembly. You will assemble wooden frames, docks, and boat cradles using nails, screws, and bolts.
  • Tool maintenance. You will clean, sharpen, and store hand tools and power tools at the end of each shift.
  • Site cleanup. You will sweep the shop floor, clear offcuts, and organize materials so the crew can work safely.

What they're asking for

  • Certification. No trade certification is required; this is an entry-level position and we will train you.
  • Experience. No prior experience is needed, but you should be comfortable working with your hands and willing to learn.
  • Tickets. You must have a valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable transportation to our yard in Amherstburg.
  • Conditions. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods, and you must follow all workplace safety rules.

What the employer offers

  • Pay extras. Overtime is paid at time and a half after 44 hours per week.
  • Gear. We provide safety glasses, work gloves, and hearing protection, and we supply all tools needed on the job.
  • Leave. You get two weeks of paid vacation after your first year, plus statutory holidays.
