LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Selkirk Interiors is a family-run meat and specialty food shop in Barrie, ON, serving retail customers and a handful of local restaurants. The work is hands-on butchery with a focus on fresh cuts, house-made sausages and steady quality, and we are willing to train someone new to the trade.

A typical day starts at the block, breaking down primal cuts and trimming them for the display case, then moving into sausage and burger batches and wrapping orders for customers. You keep your station clean and your knives sharp, follow the safe-food-handling routine without shortcuts, and work alongside the rest of the shop crew through the lunch rush.

What you'll be doing

  • Cutting and trimming. Break down primals and prepare standard retail cuts for the display case under the lead butcher's direction.
  • Sausage making. Weigh and mix ingredients, run the grinder and stuffer, and link and package house sausages.
  • Customer service. Take counter orders, wrap and label product, and answer simple questions about cuts and cooking.
  • Cleanup and safety. Sanitize the block, tools and cooler at the end of each shift and follow food-safety procedures.

What they're asking for

  • Food safety. Current Safe Food Handling certificate, or willingness to complete one in the first month.
  • Experience. None required; we train the right person on our equipment and cuts.
  • Physical fitness. Ability to stand for a full shift and lift up to 25 kg regularly.
  • Reliability. Punctual, steady attendance and comfort working in a cold cooler.

What the employer offers

  • Training provided. Paid on-the-job training and a review after the first three months.
  • Staff discount. Discounted meat and grocery items for personal use.
  • Gear and breaks. Steel-toed boots allowance, freezer gear supplied, and two paid breaks per shift.
