LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Cowichan Valley Carpentry is a small construction and site-services contractor working on residential and light commercial projects around Balgonie and the surrounding rural municipalities. We are hiring a security guard to keep watch over our yard, equipment and active job sites, and this is an entry-level position with no prior experience needed.

The day starts at the yard with a check of the gates, fencing and lighting, then moves through scheduled patrols of the compound and any site we are working on. You log who comes and goes, watch the camera feeds, and report anything out of place to the site supervisor. Most of the work is on foot and outdoors, so you dress for the weather and stay alert through quiet stretches.

What you'll be doing

  • Patrols. Walk the yard and active job sites on a set route, checking gates, locks and fencing.
  • Access control. Sign visitors and deliveries in and out and confirm they have a reason to be on site.
  • Monitoring. Watch camera feeds and alarm panels from the site office and respond when something trips.
  • Reporting. Write short shift logs and pass anything unusual to the supervisor before you leave.

What they're asking for

  • Certification. Hold or be able to obtain a Saskatchewan security guard licence before starting.
  • Experience. None needed; we train new guards on our routes and paperwork.
  • Tickets. Valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle, since sites sit outside town.
  • Conditions. Clean criminal record check and willingness to work outdoors in all seasons.

What the employer offers

  • Pay extras. Evening and weekend hours carry a shift premium on top of the base rate.
  • Gear. Rain jacket, hi-vis vest, radio and flashlight are supplied and replaced when worn.
  • Leave. Two weeks of paid vacation after the first year, plus statutory holidays.
