LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Bow River Cabinet Co. is a cabinet manufacturer in Airdrie, Alberta, and this role keeps our shop and showroom clean and safe. You will handle the heavier end of the cleaning here: workshop floors, finishing rooms, washrooms and the front office.

Most days start before the shop gets busy. You will sweep and mop production floors, vacuum and wipe down the showroom and offices, empty bins and clear sawdust and offcuts, then finish with a check of the washrooms and lunchroom.

What you'll be doing

  • Floor care. Sweep, mop and scrub the workshop and showroom floors, including under benches.
  • Waste handling. Empty bins, bag sawdust and offcuts, and move waste to the loading area.
  • Disinfection. Clean and disinfect washrooms, lunchroom and touch points through the building.
  • Surface cleaning. Wipe down doors, glass, railings and shared surfaces, and dust office areas.

What they're asking for

  • Experience. No prior cleaning experience needed; we will train the right person.
  • Physical fitness. Able to lift up to 25 kg, stand for a full shift and work around wood dust.
  • Reliability. Punctual and able to work early mornings without supervision once trained.
  • Safety. Willing to follow shop safety rules and wear the provided protective equipment.

What the employer offers

  • Shift premium. Extra pay for early morning starts.
  • Gear provided. Steel-toed boots allowance and all cleaning supplies supplied.
  • Paid leave. Two weeks of paid vacation after the first year.

About cleaning and housekeeping work in Canada

What the work is

Cleaners and housekeepers maintain offices, hotels, hospitals and private homes. The work covers vacuuming, mopping, disinfecting, laundry and waste handling, and often falls outside normal hours because buildings are cleaned while they are empty.

What employers usually ask for

Formal qualifications are rarely required. Employers look for reliability, attention to detail, and enough English or French to follow instructions and read safety labels on chemicals. Roles in healthcare and childcare settings usually require a criminal record check.

If you are applying from outside Canada

Healthcare cleaning is the part of this category most likely to require a police check and health screening, so allow time for those before you can start. Hotel housekeeping is a common first job for newcomers because hiring is quick and often done on site. Pay in this category is usually close to the provincial minimum wage — check what that is in the province you are targeting before you commit.
