LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Wapiti Gear Works runs a manufacturing and equipment shop at 108 Mile Ranch, and we need a cleaner to keep the building, washrooms and shop floors in proper shape. This is heavy duty cleaning work rather than light tidying, and it suits someone starting out who is willing to learn the equipment and the routine.

The day starts with the washrooms and lunchroom, then moves through the shop floor, sweeping and scrubbing around the equipment and hauling waste to the bins. You will work to a checklist, log what you have finished, and let the shop supervisor know when supplies are running low or something needs repair.

What you'll be doing

  • Shop floor cleaning. Sweep, mop and scrub the concrete floors around machinery and walkways.
  • Washroom and lunchroom care. Clean and disinfect washrooms, sinks, appliances and tables daily.
  • Waste handling. Collect shop and office waste, sort recyclables and take bins to the collection area.
  • Grounds and entryways. Keep entrances, windows and the outside walkways clear and presentable.

What they're asking for

  • No experience needed. We will train the right person on our equipment, products and cleaning routine.
  • Certification. No ticket or licence is required for this role.
  • Physical fitness. You can lift up to 25 kg, stand for a full shift and work around shop equipment.
  • Reliability. You have dependable transportation to 108 Mile Ranch and can follow a set schedule.

What the employer offers

  • Boot allowance. We cover the cost of a pair of safety boots after three months.
  • Gear provided. Cleaning supplies, gloves, eye protection and a shop coat are supplied.
  • Paid leave. Two weeks of vacation after the first year, plus statutory holidays.

About cleaning and housekeeping work in Canada

What the work is

Cleaners and housekeepers maintain offices, hotels, hospitals and private homes. The work covers vacuuming, mopping, disinfecting, laundry and waste handling, and often falls outside normal hours because buildings are cleaned while they are empty.

What employers usually ask for

Formal qualifications are rarely required. Employers look for reliability, attention to detail, and enough English or French to follow instructions and read safety labels on chemicals. Roles in healthcare and childcare settings usually require a criminal record check.

If you are applying from outside Canada

Healthcare cleaning is the part of this category most likely to require a police check and health screening, so allow time for those before you can start. Hotel housekeeping is a common first job for newcomers because hiring is quick and often done on site. Pay in this category is usually close to the provincial minimum wage — check what that is in the province you are targeting before you commit.
