About this role

Cedar Hollow Landscaping is a small landscaping and grounds-maintenance outfit in Abbotsford, BC. Along with yard work and garden care, we run a lunch program for our crews out of a kitchen at our shop, and we need someone to keep the dish pit and kitchen clean so the cooks can keep food moving.

Each day you'll work alongside the cooks at the three-tub sink and the commercial dishwasher, scraping, washing, sanitizing and putting away pots, pans, plates and cutlery through the lunch rush. Between rushes you'll wipe down counters, sweep and mop the kitchen floor, take out compost and garbage, and restock clean dishes where the cooks can reach them. It's steady, hands-on work in a busy kitchen, and we'll train you on our setup.

What you'll be doing

  • Dishwashing. Wash pots, pans, plates and cutlery by hand and through the commercial dishwasher, then sanitize and air-dry them.
  • Kitchen cleaning. Wipe down counters and prep surfaces, sweep and mop floors, and clean the dish pit at the end of each shift.
  • Waste handling. Empty compost, recycling and garbage bins and keep the back door and bin area tidy.
  • Restocking. Put clean dishes and utensils back where the cooks need them and let the kitchen lead know when supplies are running low.

What they're asking for

  • No experience needed. We'll train you on the sink, the dishwasher and our cleaning routine, so this is a good first kitchen job.
  • Food-safe habits. You must be comfortable standing for a full shift, lifting up to 20 kg, and working around hot water and cleaning products.
  • Availability. You need to be able to work the posted lunch shifts and get to our Abbotsford shop on time.
  • Language. You need enough English to follow safety instructions and kitchen directions and to read cleaning labels. English — CLB 4 (basic).

What the employer offers

  • Meals. A hot lunch is provided on every shift you work.
  • Gear. Aprons, gloves and all cleaning supplies are supplied by the employer.
  • Pay extras. Staff who stay past six months get a $1 per hour raise and paid statutory holidays.
