LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Sudbury Rock Drilling is a drilling and site services contractor working across the Bas-Saint-Laurent, and we are adding a roofer to our Amqui crew for the season. The work is flat and low-slope roofing on commercial and institutional buildings, with some residential repair calls when the weather turns.

Days start at the yard on Industrielle Boulevard, where you load materials and get your assignment. You will strip old membrane, set insulation and felt, torch or glue down new membrane, and leave the site clean at the end of the day. We train on the torch and the fall protection, so a good attitude and steady hands matter more than a long résumé.

What you'll be doing

  • Membrane work. Cut, fit and install modified bitumen and single-ply membrane on flat and low-slope roofs.
  • Tear-off. Strip existing roofing, insulation and flashing and sort the debris for disposal.
  • Flashing and sealing. Install edge metal, vents and drains and seal seams and penetrations.
  • Site upkeep. Load materials, keep the roof and the yard tidy, and report damage or safety hazards to the foreman.

What they're asking for

  • Certification. Fall protection training is required; we will put you through the course if you do not have the card.
  • Experience. None needed — this is an entry-level posting and we train on the job.
  • Tickets. A valid class 5 driver's licence and a way to get to the Amqui yard each morning.
  • Conditions. Comfortable working at height and outdoors in heat, cold and rain, and able to lift 50 lb repeatedly.

What the employer offers

  • Pay extras. Premium of $2.00 per hour on top of base pay for work above three storeys.
  • Gear. Safety boots allowance of $150 after three months, and all harnesses, ropes and tools supplied.
  • Leave. Two weeks of paid vacation in the first year and statutory holidays off as scheduled.

About general and construction labour work in Canada

What the work is

General labourers support the skilled trades on building sites: moving materials, digging, mixing, cleaning up and operating basic equipment. It is the most common entry route into Canadian construction and often the quickest way to start earning on a site.

What employers usually ask for

No formal qualification in most cases. Employers want reliability, physical fitness and a willingness to follow safety rules without argument. A valid driving licence and basic safety training — commonly WHMIS, Working at Heights, or a general construction safety course — make you noticeably more employable.

If you are applying from outside Canada

Safety training is provincial, inexpensive and quick to obtain after arrival; some employers will pay for it. This is one of the easier categories to be hired into from outside Canada, but it is also the most dependent on being physically present, because employers rarely hire labourers without meeting them.
