LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Muskoka Cottage Services operates a small seasonal café in Bas-Caraquet, on the Acadian Peninsula. We serve coffee, baked goods and simple lunch items to locals, cottagers and visitors passing through the area.

A day on shift starts with setting up the counter and getting the espresso machine ready. From there you take orders, make coffee and tea drinks, ring through payment, and keep the seating area and counter clean between rushes. Mornings and weekend afternoons are the busiest stretches.

What you'll be doing

  • Counter service. Take customer orders, answer questions about the menu and handle cash and card payment.
  • Drink preparation. Pull espresso shots and make coffee, tea and iced drinks to order.
  • Food handling. Plate baked goods and simple lunch items, and keep display cases stocked and rotated.
  • Cleanliness. Wipe counters and tables, wash dishes and mugs, and take out recycling and waste through the shift.

What they're asking for

  • Experience. None required; training is provided on site for the right candidate.
  • Availability. Able to work a mix of mornings, weekends and holiday periods through the season.
  • Standing work. Comfortable on your feet for the length of a shift, with repeated lifting of supplies up to about 20 kg.
  • Language. Working English for taking orders and speaking with customers; French is an asset in this community.

What the employer offers

  • Tips. Shared with the team at the end of each shift.
  • Meals. One meal or drink on shift at no cost.
  • Uniform. Apron and shirt supplied; non-slip footwear is your own.

About food counter attendant work in Canada

What the work is

Counter attendants take orders, handle payment, prepare simple food and drinks, and keep the front of a fast-food restaurant or café clean and stocked. It is fast, standing work on shift patterns that include evenings and weekends.

What employers usually ask for

No formal qualification. Employers want customer-facing English or French, reliability on a published rota, and the ability to handle a till during a rush. Food safety certification is sometimes required, and employers often arrange or reimburse it.

If you are applying from outside Canada

This is one of the most common first jobs for newcomers in Canada and among the quickest to be hired into, because hiring is local and immediate. It does not qualify you for most immigration pathways on its own, so check whether the role meets the requirements of any programme you are relying on before you accept it.
